The 7 Year Scream

Golden Screamers7 year screamYesterday’s Longmont 2nd Arts Friday was great, many old & new visitors came by to view and chat about my work.

During the event, I played with some specialty papers that I’ve been intrigued with, but didn’t know what to do with. I tried gluing them to sturdier watercolor paper and printing some stencils (in this case, stencils from Meet the Screamers) on the gilded portions.

On the first try, I used adhesive spray to hold the stencil in place, but that pulled away the gilded surface when the stencil was removed. I then tried with no adhesive, and it worked much better.

To the left is a recent mono print “The 7 Year Scream”, combining vintage cinema and politics.

While I pondered…

while I pondered

The second mono print inspired by “The Raven”.

Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary,
Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore—
While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping,
As of some one gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door.
“’Tis some visitor,” I muttered, “tapping at my chamber door—
            Only this and nothing more.”

Psycho Rushmore

Psycho Mt Rushmore

Last Friday’s Longmont Second Friday Art night was a lot of fun. The Firehouse was packed, and much of the overflow found their way upstairs to my studio.

A few visitors commented that “Quote the Raven..” reminded them of Hitchcock, and Ron Galegos mentioned Mt Rushmore (from North by Northwest).

The proverbial light bulb went off over my head, and I started mixing and matching imagery. The result is the mono print above, acrylic paint on 300 lb. Arches watercolor paper.
